Senator Schumer is having a bad week.
Wednesday, he threatened Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, was rebuked by Chief Justice Roberts, and was admonished by liberal legal luminaries.
He then issued a lame “non-apology,” and is now the subject of a Senate Censure Resolution with increasing support of fifteen Senators.
Senator Schumer’s threat against Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh was indeed dangerous, but it also contained a cryptic clause that raises two additional questions: (1) what did Senator Schumer know, and (2) who told him?
Standing before the United States Supreme Court on Wednesday, Schumer threatened:
“I want to tell you Gorsuch. I want to tell you Kavanaugh. You have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price! You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.
The phrase “if you go forward” presupposes: (1) a pre-determined course of action by Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, and (2) knowledge of those facts by Schumer. (By the way, justices often enter oral arguments knowing how they plan to vote and it is not unethical for them to share thoughts with colleagues on the court.)
We know Schumer plays fast and loose with words. So, perhaps his threat was another liberal baseless accusation. It wouldn’t be his first rodeo. But, if we take his words at face value, then they indicate foreknowledge.
So, perhaps someone in the media might inquire of Senator Schumer:
“You indicated you knew how Gorsuch and Kavanaugh were planning to vote and you warned them to not “go forward” with those votes. Were you assuming facts not in evidence, or did you know something? And if you knew something, who told you?
There is a lot of unpunished leaking going on among liberals in Washington D.C. I sure hope it has not spread to their allies on the Supreme Court of the United States.
